The Sarnagati Building rose to prominence in the mid-1900s as the home of the Sarnagati School of Art, which was affiliated with Viswa Bharati in Shantiniketan, India,an institution founded by Rabindranath Tagore. The school was influenced by the Swadeshi and Bengal Art movements that emerged in the early 1900s as a response to colonial rule, emphasizing cultural independence and unity. Serving as a hub for artistic and intellectual exchange in Karachi, the Sarnagati School of Art welcomed individuals from diverse backgrounds, fostering shared ideas and creativity during a pivotal era of anti-colonial sentiment.
The original artwork was a part of Ozair's solo show at Khalikdina Hall, called Karachi's Lost Communities.
