Built between 1884 and 1889, Empress Market stands as one of Karachi's most iconic colonial-era landmarks. Named in honor of Queen Victoria, the market was deliberately constructed on the site where native sepoys were executed following the 1857 uprising,a location rich with layered history. Designed by architect James Strachan, its towering structure was intended to dominate the cityscape and reflect imperial authority. Today, Empress Market remains a bustling reminder of Karachi's complex colonial past and enduring spirit.
